Rockets: Force and Motion

Author(s): Gregory L. Vogt, EdD

Rocket Science: Galileo Galilei

Galileo was a mathematician who developed the astronomical telescope, which he used to view stars.

Galileo experimented with motion and dropped a large and a small object from the Leaning Tower of Pisa simultaneously, discovering that they fell at the same rate. He also developed the concept of inertia, which is a resistance to changes in motion. Objects that are in motion will remain in motion unless acted upon by a force. Objects at rest will also remain at rest unless acted upon by an outside force.
