How to Use the Slide Sets
The BioEd Online Slide Sets is a collection of PowerPoint slide sets developed by BioEd Online Editorial Board members. Each slide set is comprised of a number of slides with speaker's notes, references, and key words. Slide sets can be viewed and downloaded in their entirety. In addition, you can search the library to pick individual slides to create and download custom presentations.
To access slides:
You may access slide sets from "Slide Set" menu at the top of this page in two ways:
- Choose the category and slide set title from the nested menus or;
- Choose "overview" from the "Slide Set" menu to see the entire list of slide sets.
To view slides
Once you have navigated to a slide set page you may view the slides in two ways:
- Thumbnail View - shows the slide set title and as many as 10 thumbnail images. Each thumbnail is accompanied by the slide title and clickable key words associated with that slide. If there are more than 10 slides in a given slide set or collection of slides, you will find a numbered navigation aid below the slide set title or the entered search term. This aid will allow you to navigate through the slides 10 at a time.
- Enlarged View - From the thumbnail view click on the slide thumbnail to view an enlarged image of the slide and the slide's speaker's notes, key words, and references. Browse through the slides one at a time by clicking on one of the arrows directly below the slide set title or the entered search term. You may return to the thumbnail view either by clicking on the "View Thumbnails" button on the upper left corner of the page or by clicking on the enlarged image of the slide.
Once you are able to view the slides you wish to browse (see "To view slides" above), you can build you presentation as follows:
- ยท Select the specific slides you would like to include in your presentation by clicking on the box marked "Add This Slide To My Tray" that appears below the slide image OR select all the slides in a particular slide set by clicking on "Add All Slides in Set To Tray" in the upper left corner of your browser window.
- Select the specific slides you would like to include in your presentation by clicking on the box marked "Add This Slide To My Tray" that appears below the slide image.
- If you are interested in searching some more and adding other slides to your tray, you may do so. Slides will remain in your tray until you remove them or download your tray.
- The number of slides in your slide tray appears on the left side of your browser window.
- At any time during this process, you may remove slides from your tray by clicking on "Remove Slide from Slide Tray" underneath the slide images.
- Click on "View Slide Tray" on the upper left side of your browser window to view your final selections. In this view you can still remove slides from your tray.
- When your slide tray selection is final, select "Download Slide Tray" to download the slides to your computer. A PowerPoint presentation will be assembled and compressed in .zip format. Follow the onscreen directions to extract the compressed file and open it in PowerPoint on your computer.
To search for slides in the slide library
- Type in a word or phrase and then click on the "Search Slides" button, or select one of the key words adjacent to the slide images. A search is conducted of talk titles, slide content and titles, key words, and talking points. All slides related to the word or phrase you entered will appear in your browser.
- To broaden your search, use multiple words or phrases separated by commas. The search will return all slides containing those words or phrases, in any order. You can always conduct several searches of individual terms or phrases and add slides to your tray during each search. See "To build your slide presentation" for more information on adding slides to your tray from multiple talks or searches.
- To limit your search, use "and" and "not" between search words or phrases.
- When you don't know the exact spelling of a word or want to match several words that begin the same, use an asterisk after the first few letters in the word or word family you want to search for.
