Author(s): Barbara Tharp, Paula Cutler, James Denk, and Nancy Moreno
Brain Chemistry Explorations

In the Brain Chemistry Explorations magazine, students examine the structure of the brain, neurons and the central nervous system, and they learn how some plants stimulate or depress certain aspects of the nervous system. Additional articles and activities focus on nutrition for the brain, neurotransmitters and how they send signals, behaviors, reactions and feelings involved with chemicals in the brain, and an interview with a chemical dependency counselor.

This magazine is an integrated component of the Brain Chemistry unit. It also may be used as a stand-alone reading/language arts activity.

Brain Chemistry Explorations is most appropriate for use with students in grades 6-8, but may be adapted for use with other grade levels..
